A PRODUCT recall has been issued for a popular lawn mower, sold by Bunnings and Harvey Norman, after it was revealed the mechanism designed to hold its blades in place could fail if it is damaged.

The recall concerns Masport mowers with the serial numbers: 7545492 to 7791051.

"If the blade disc system becomes damaged, or is not correctly maintained, the blade disc system can become out of balance, creating excessive vibration which may cause the blade disc to fracture," a product alert issued by the ACCC read.

"Consumers should take their mower to their nearest Masport dealer for installation of an anti-vibration washer, and replacement of the blade disc if required."

The recall applies to mowers sold between 2 July 2012 - 31 March 2014.
