Ratings woes lead to resignation
CHANNEL 10's chief programming officer David Mott has resigned today as a result of the broadcaster's ratings woes.
Mr Mott's departure follows the axing of Ten's dance flop Everybody Dance Now and the disappointing debut numbers of talent quest I Will Survive, Don't Tell The Bride and the revamped panel show Can of Worms.
"David has had an extraordinary career at Ten over the past 16 years," Ten's chief executive James Warburton said in a statement.
Mr Mott's legacy includes some of Ten's most successful series such as MasterChef, Australian Idol, Rove Live, The Biggest Loser, The Project and recent hits Offspring and Puberty Blues.
He said risks and "bold programming decisions" were necessary in today's free-to-air TV market.
"In a job where you live and die by the numbers, perhaps I've been luckier than most," Mr Mott said.
"It's been a great ride, and I've loved every second of it. I leave behind a focused and committed creative team and I wish them all the best for the future."
Ten's network head of programming Beverley McGarvey will assume Mr Mott's responsibilities on an acting basis.
