Power, traffic light outages as storm hits

UPDATE 1.30PM: The number of Ipswich customers without power has increased to 1340, with outages having spread to Ipswich and Karalee.

Energex is conducting emergency repairs in Flinders View, Raceview and Ripley, and will provide an online update at 5pm. 

The outages in Ipswich and Karalee are under investigation, with updates due at 8.30pm and 8pm respectively. 

Energex reported the number of Somerest region customers affected by outages has been reduced from 1271 to 131, with emergency repairs underway. 

An update on Somerset region outages will be issued by Energex at 4.30pm. 

 

UPDATE 11:30AM: Police are directing traffic at two intersections in the Ipswich CBD after power outages affected traffic lights. 

The East and Limestone Sts intersection is affected, as is the Limestone and Ellenborough Sts intersection. 

Police are awaiting the arrival of technicians to repair the signals. 

 

BREAKING 10.50AM: About 2525 Ipswich and Somerset region homes and businesses are without power due to an unplanned outage, which took place as a heavy storm swept the region.

Energex reported 1254 customers in the Ipswich suburbs of Raceview, Flinders View and Ripley were affected.

A further 1271 customers in the Somerset region experienced power outages, with the hardest hit suburbs being Minden, Tarampa, Lowood and Prenzlau. 

Energex is currently investigating and will provide an update at 1pm.
