THIS stunning coupe that I'm featuring today is the all-new 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S, coating in a beautiful Guard Red.
Ever since the first Porsche 911 was released in 1963, the engines have been at the rear of the car, much like it's early ancestor, the Volkswagen Beetle.
The tradition continues in this new 991 911, and this Carrera S model is equipped with a 3.8-litre, 24 valve flat-six engine which can produce up to 294 kilowatts (400 horsepower) at 7400rpm and 440 Newton metres of torque (325 pound-feet of torque) at 5600rpm.
Connected to the engine is Porsche's Doppelkupplung (PDK) seven-speed automated-manual transmission, with manual shifting paddles behind the steering wheel, which then sends all the power straight to the rear wheels. Also, this particular model has a kerb weight of just 1415 kilograms.
This allows the 991 911 Carrera S to launch from 0-100kmh in just 4.1 seconds in Sport+ mode, and it will keep accelerating until it reaches its top speed of 302kmh (188 miles per hour).
It's main rival for the price would have to be the Audi R8 4.2, which has a base price of $287,000 with the R-Tronic gearbox (about $19,000 more than the Carrera S).
The R8 is 0.5 seconds slower for the 0-100kmh sprint and its top speed is 301kmh (187 miles per hour), 1kph slower than the 911.
A closer rival in my opinion is the $300,000 BMW M6 Coupe, which completes the 0-100kmh sprint in 4.2 seconds (0.1 seconds slower than the Carrera S), but its top speed is electronically limited to 250kmh (155 miles per hour).
This means this 911 is 52kmh (32 miles per hour) faster than the M6 Coupe.
Some other features that this particular Porsche is equipped with includes 20-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels painted in black, performance tires, an electronic raising rear spoiler, variable intermittent rain sensing wipers, modified McPherson strut front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, a front and rear stabilizer bar, four-wheel ABS as well as traction and stability control, seat belt pretensioners, electronic brake force distribution and emergency braking preparation, daytime running LED's as well as dusk-sensing and self-levelling xenon headlights, an engine immobiliser, a leather interior with sport front seats, a satellite navigation system and much more.
You can currently buy a new 2013 Porsche 911 Carrera S for a base price of $268,550.
