Plan ensures landholder rights in compensation negotiations
THE Newman Government has delivered a six-point plan as a response to an investigation into how resource firms were dealing with Queensland property owners.
The 2011 Independent Review of the Land Access Framework was designed to make life easier for those landowners who are working with mining firms intending to explore for minerals on their properties.
Mines Minister Andrew Cripps said the six-point action plan would address the 12 recommendations made in the report.
These new points do not include the GasFields Commission which was also created following the report.
This new plan includes ensuring landholder rights during compensation negotiations and a larger jurisdiction for the Land Court with more powers to mediate.
Land titles would be tagged with compensation deals, an "opt out" escape-clause would be put in place and a new template for negotiating those claims.
Peak groups for the agriculture, farming, gas and mining industries will work to put this "action plan" in place before the end of next year.
