A PILOT has had a lucky escape after the vintage light aircraft he was flying flipped on a private runway.
It is understood the single-engined aircraft rolled onto its roof as it approached take off on an airstrip on a private property along Johnson's Rd, Sandy Beach, just after 4.30pm.
Paramedics, police and firefighters rushed to the location to find the pilot, a man aged in his 60s, had escaped from the cockpit uninjured.
He was the sole occupant of the aircraft, police media said.
The aircraft, a De Havilland DH.82A Tiger Moth, was extensively damaged and the impact broke the plane's propeller and tail.
