O’Brien wins LNP preselection for Fairfax

BUSINESSMAN Ted O'Brien has been chosen as the Liberal National Party's (LNP) candidate for the Sunshine Coast federal seat of Fairfax, beating former Australian rugby union coach John Connolly.

LNP member Alex Somlyay has held the federal seat since 1990, but is retiring at the next election.

Mr O'Brien, who lives in Buderim, started his working life as a baker and now chairs the advisory board for Ronald McDonald House for southeast Queensland.

He says he's ready to hit the hustings immediately.

''What we need is a federal coalition government with the right priorities and the policies that will get this region to really reach its potential and get Australia back on track,'' he said.
