IPSWICH has had a hot introduction to 2013 with the mercury rising to 38.4C on Wednesday at just after 3pm.

But conditions felt more like 40C with the high humidity and no wind.

A cooler change is on the way on Thursday and residents can look forward to a top of just 31C.
