Mystery of Toowoomba's memorial palms solved
UPDATE: Mystery solved! The palm trees planted near the Mothers' Memorial were donated to Toowoomba Regional Council by Metro Church.
The church was redeveloping the area where the palm trees were planted and decided that they should be donated to the community.
It is the second time the trees have been replanted.
A council spokeswoman said palm trees were traditionally planted around war memorial.
"That is why the Mothers' Memorial was chosen," she said.
"One of the trees was actually smaller than the other so the holes had to be dug shorter than the other.
"They are planted about 2.5m into the ground."

The palms look tremendous, but no one can tell from where they have come?
Some Toowoomba people we have spoken to this morning questioned the practicality of the trees, especially when shade is so important in an area where commemoration events are held regularly.
