CAFE-GOERS might notice an unusually high number of breastfeeding mums in Ipswich's fourthchild cafe this morning, especially if they make their coffee run at 10.30am.

Dozens of Ipswich mums will take part in a synchronised breastfeeding event, as part of an international record-breaking attempt.

Organiser Meg Clein said the Big Latch On would involve mums and babies around the world all breastfeeding at 10.30am.

Ms Clein said this was the first time she had heard of a Big Latch On being held in Ipswich.

"I decided to organise it because I'm passionate about breastfeeding," Ms Clein said.

"Not only will the Big Latch On help to raise awareness, but it will encourage community nurturing.

"Mothers can talk with each other and discuss breastfeeding."

Ms Clein said today's event would help mothers to establish a support network, and help the wider community to become more accepting of breastfeeding.

Australian Breastfeeding Association member Rachel Ballard said she was looking forward to talking with other breastfeeding mums.

Leonie Lammond, who breastfeeds her 16-month-old son, said it would be a good chance to break down myths.

Up to 30 women are expected to attend the fourthchild event, and other breastfeeding mothers are welcome to attend from 10am.

Other south-east Queensland Big Latch On locations include Mt Coottha and Mt Tamborine.
