Mum, 18, charged with baby oven torture

AN 18-YEAR-OLD Ipswich mother has been charged with attempted torture after she allegedly put her nine-month-old baby daughter in a hot oven.

Ipswich police allege that a member of the woman's family intervened after hearing the baby's screams at the woman's home in Flinders View on Tuesday, October 2.

The incident was only reported to police on October 4.

There was no indication of possible injuries caused to the child as a result of being placed in the oven.

Police at the city's Child Protection and Investigation Unit allege the child was only left inside for a brief period of time.

They refused to comment further on the case against the woman.

It is believed that the nine-month-old girl and another child, a boy aged 22 months, have both been taken out of the woman's care.

She faced Ipswich Magistrates Court last Friday.

The case has been adjourned to a later date.
