A MAN'S body has been found in a car in floodwaters on near Copmanhurst.

Police reported the incident happened on Rogan Bridge Rd but it has now been confirmed the incident happened on the Clarence Way near the Whiteman Ck Bridge turn off.

The 73-year-old man is understood to be a local who tried to drive his car through the flooded road.

SES volunteers had been called to the area, about 20km north-west of Grafton, shortly before 1pm today (Saturday 23 February) after a car was seen submerged in floodwaters.

Volunteers found the body of the man inside the car and alerted Grafton Police.

The man's body has been removed from the vehicle, however, the car remains submerged.

Police are now working to formally identify the man.

A report will be prepared for the NSW Coroner.

Police are reminding motorists NOT to drive into floodwaters.

A local source said he was checking floodwaters near his home when he spotted a white four wheel drive completely submerged in floodwater.

Only the roof was visible and he directed SES to the car.

It is believed the car was travelling from Grafton to Copmanhurst. 

Sources at the Rest Point Hotel in Copmanhurst said they did not yet know who the man was.

Access to Copmanhurst is once again blocked due to floodwaters.
