Man pleads guilty to murder of housemate

AN IPSWICH man has admitted he killed his housemate after a squabble last year.

Shaun Patrick Flanagan, 35, pleaded guilty in Brisbane Supreme Court on Friday morning to the manslaughter of Leeroy Johnson, 30, at Redbank.

Flanagan stood accused of murder after Mr Johnson died from a fatal stab wound in front of their home on Mine St on February 8, 2010.

He was expected to face a trial on that charge this month but the Crown has accepted the plea on the lesser manslaughter offence.

The trial has been de-listed and the murder charge withdrawn.

Mr Johnson and then girlfriend Lisa Dawson had moved into the bottom floor of the house where Flanagan, his partner Martinez Driessens and their children lived.

The hearing revealed they had been socialising the night Mr Johnson died but a scuffle later resulted in a fatal stab wound.
