Man pepper sprayed and tasered after being hit by three cars

A MAN is undergoing surgery after allegedly being struck by three cars and then struggling with police officers at a Leichhardt service station.

Charges are yet to be laid, however police will allege that three officers were injured during a struggle with the man on Old Toowoomba Rd about 7.20pm Tuesday.

Police were initially called after a man was reportedly running in and out of traffic on Toongarra Rd, about 150m from the Caltex Service station on Old Toowoomba Rd.

It will be alleged that the 28-year-old man sustained extensive injuries after being hit by three different vehicles, despite efforts by some bystanders to restrain him.

He then ran down to the service station, where police claim that they used capsicum spray on the man due to his aggressive behaviour.

A police taser was also deployed before the man was taken to Ipswich Hospital.

An ambulance spokeswoman said the man was transported in a stable condition with a large cut to his leg.

He will undergo surgery.

Inspector Keith McDonald said three police officers were treated for minor injuries at St Andrew's Hospital.

The officers will also undergo disease testing, as there are concerns that blood may have been transferred during the alleged altercation between police and the injured man.
