Police locate man who attempted walk from Ipswich to Mt French

UPDATE: Police last night located a man who they feared had perished in the summer heat after attempting to walk from Ipswich to Mt French, near Boonah.

Authorities were alerted to the 41-year-old man's attempt to cover 60km on foot after he contacted relatives about 3pm on Tuesday, telling them he had already been walking for 14 hours and was dehydrated and exhausted.

Extensive searches were carried out over the next few hours, with the man eventually located outside the Boonah post office about 8.45pm.

Police said the man was dehydrated but did not require medical attention.

He was transported from Boonah to Mt Edwards to complete his journey.
