Fisherman dies after carpark row

UPDATE: A 34-YEAR-OLD man who wanted to embark on a fishing trip early today died after being restrained on the ground of the Mooloolaba Marina carpark.

Police have been guarding the scene of the death with the carpark taped off and forensic officers carrying out detailed investigations..

Police said initial investigations indicated the man attended the Mooloolaba Marina on Parkyn Parade around 5.30am.

The man allegedly became agitated and aggressive towards a female staff member of the fishing charter company before allegedly assaulting her and a male staff member.

Seven News reported the man had wanted to join the charter but was reportedly intoxicated.

Other staff rushed to the assistance of the female staff member and physically restrained the man on the ground when they noticed he had stopped breathing.

Staff members attempted to resuscitate the man, however he died at the scene.

The drama came as the sailing season of the Mooloolaba Yacht Club, which operates out of the Wharf, was launched  just down the road.

State Government Ministers and the mayor Mark Jamieson were on hand for the launch of the 46th season of the club, which is completely separate from marina.
