LIVERPOOL Football Club is in danger of finishing outside the top eight in England's top division for the first time since 1954, the season it was relegated.

A 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Fulham was far from ideal preparation for Sunday's FA Cup final against Chelsea.

Liverpool has won only five games at Anfield this season and before this game, Fulham had never won in 41 top-flight league visits to Merseyside to play either Liverpool or Everton, which beat the Cottagers 4-0 on the weekend.

The Reds have now scored just 20 home goals all season - the lowest in the club's history is 24.

Martin Skertl's own-goal was the difference between the two teams and Everton's 1-1 draw at Stoke meant the Toffees moved ahead of its Merseyside rivals into seventh spot on the English Premier league table.
