Severe thunderstorm warning issued

A SEVERE thunderstorm warning has been issued across the Ipswich region.

The Bureau of Meteorology is warning residents to be careful of damaging winds and large hailstones.

The storm is predicted to be the most severe in Esk and Toogoolawah where it is expected to strike around 2pm.

Emergency Management Queensland is advising residents move cars under cover or away from trees, secure loose outdoor items and to seek shelter - preferably indoors and never under trees.

In storm affected areas people should avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm and beware of fallen trees and power lines.

For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.

The Bureau of Meteorology will issue their next warning at 2.05pm.
