Labor confident Parliament will reject TPV push

THE Federal Government says it is confident Parliament will reject Opposition legislation to reinstate temporary protection visas (TPVs).

The visas gave asylum seekers arriving in Australia temporary permission to remain, in case conditions in their home country improved.

Yesterday, the Coalition's immigration spokesman Scott Morrison said Labor must end its opposition to the policy.

But Housing Minister Brendan O'Connor says he expects Parliament will instead back the Government's initiatives.
