Kostya scores dream selection in Queensland hockey squad
THE idea of being a professional hockey player when he grows up is a thought 15-year-old Kostya Davis smiles about.
Lucky for him, the Beenleigh teenager is already on his way to the big league.
Earlier this year he was selected to participate in the Queensland Hockey under 15's Boys Development Squad where he has been competing and training against some of the best players around the country.
Kostya said he was overwhelmed to be selected in the team.
"I was really excited to be told I was in the development squad," he said.
"It was a pretty cool feeling."
He recently travelled down to Grafton with the squad where he played a series of matches against teams from New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.
For the next six months he will take part in an off-season training program which includes bootcamp and skill development.
In addition, Kostya has also selected in the under 19's south coast school boys team and the Gold Coast under 15's boys rep team previously.
Kostya said his love for hockey stemmed from his parents who also used to play.
"My dad and I used to muck around and hit some balls around," he said.
"And that's when I started playing in a few teams."
The Beenleigh State High School student has also landed a sponsorship deal with Field Hockey Equipment (F-H-E) who supply Kostya and his family with discounted hockey equipment such as sticks and padding.
