IPSWICH children spent quality time with their dads ahead of Father's Day at Bunnings recently in proof there is more to having a good time than playing video games.

Ipswich's Mike McInnes joined his 11-year-old daughter Chelsea and son Michael, 6, at the event put on by Queens Park Joeys Scouts Group.

"It was great for the kids to get down there and do some craft," he said.

"It teaches them how to work with their hands and gets them away from the computers, which is a good thing."

Mr McInnes said all the kids enjoyed it.

"When I was a young fellow I was always outside playing in the yard - football or sport," he said. "Say to the kids to go outside and play now and they say there's nothing to do. But there is plenty to do outside."

The McInnes has something special planned for their dad on Sunday.
