Judge frowns on Seinfeld babble

THE excuse "yadda yadda yadda" - made famous by the TV show Seinfeld - didn't go down well in court for a woman pleading guilty to driving without a licence.

Kristine Annette Cosh clearly appeared relaxed in Ipswich Magistrates Court on Monday as she indifferently brushed off her offence.

When Magistrate Michael Quinn asked her if she had any reasons for driving while unlicensed, her response was casual.

"I'm a full time student, single mother and yadda yadda yadda," Cosh said.

Mr Quinn was not impressed with the 27-year-old and told Cosh that he couldn't accept her babble as reason for her actions.

The court heard Cosh was caught driving without a licence at 9.40am on September 1 on Smiths Rd at Goodna.
Cosh told police she had simply forgotten to renew her licence, which had expired on May 23.

Police Prosecutor Senior Constable Brad Dick told the court police believed her act wasn't one of defiance but was an oversight.

She was fined $120.

The phrase "yadda yadda yadda" was made famous in 1997 by a hugely popular Seinfeld episode in which George Costanza's girlfriend is big on using the phrase.

He tells his friends Jerry and Elaine that his girlfriend "tells me that her ex-boyfriend was over late last night and 'yadda yadda yadda' I'm really tired today" - worried about what the phrase could imply.

Ipswich court has had its share of offenders in favour of casually addressing judges and magistrates.

In November last year, Thomas John Collins, 35, was sent to the watch house for repeatedly calling Magistrate Matthew McLaughlin "mate" despite being told the correct term was "sir or your honour".
