Damien Oliver charged with illegal betting

LEADING Victorian jockey Damien Oliver will face a Racing Victoria stewards panel on Tuesday after admitting he bet on a rival horse in a race at Moonee Valley in October, 2010.

Oliver rode second favourite Europa Point into sixth place, but told stewards on Monday that he bet $10,000 on the winner, Miss Octopussy.

He has also been charged with bringing a mobile phone into the jockey's room.

The 40-year-old faces the prospect of 12 months on the sidelines.
