Iran tests missile system

IRAN has reportedly test fired a short-range missile guidance system that could improve its ability to strike its nearest neighbours.

Defence Minister Ahmad Vahidi told government-controlled media the success of its "Fateh-110" test meant Iranian forces could "target and destroy" a range of targets within a range of about 300km.

Al-Jazeera reported up to 35 US military bases were within Iran's missile range and could be destroyed almost instantly if America mounted an attack.

Britain's foreign office released a statement flagging its concern with the apparent tests.

"This move calls into question again Iran's stated commitment to a purely peaceful nuclear programme," the statement said.
