Ipswich's Calendar Girls bare all
TWELVE Ipswich women have tested the boundaries of their comfort zones, baring all in a nude calendar for an Ipswich charity.
The women from the Ipswich International Quota group posed nude at Peak Crossing, the Brothers car park, cafes and other Ipswich locations, their vanity maintained by conveniently placed props.
Led by Carol Mahoney, the women, aged between 45 and 89, will launch 'Calendar Girls' next month.
The calendar follows a similar story to the film of the same name, which starred Helen Mirren (pictured right).
Over Christmas drinks, Mrs Mahoney pondered possible fundraising ventures for the coming year.
She jokingly mentioned the idea of a nude calendar and the concept grew from there. She tested the water with the ideas with her fellow Quota members.
"The intial reaction was shock, because they were thinking I can't do this," she said.
"There are 30 ladies in the club and I said just need 12, put your hands up if you want to be part of it. Seventeen ladies had there hands up."
She said shooting the tasteful photos was liberating, but also confronting.
"I did my shoot first and I showed the ladies and then said, 'okay, we can do this'.
"I was definitely out of my comfort zone. All the ladies were out of their comfort zones." Once the group decided to go ahead, they chose to raise money for young women's shelter Hannah's House.
"The main reason is to support young women and children in the area, and try to give them the life we had growing up," Mrs Mahoney siad.
The business community showed its support, with 35 signing up to advertise in the calendar. The calendar is available from September 21, with 500 of 1000 copies all ready sold.
