A YOUNG millionaire and internet programming prodigy who co-founded social news website Reddit was found dead in his apartment at the weekend.
Aaron Swartz, 26, fought to keep all internet content free until his reported suicide on Friday.
The political activist was awaiting trial over allegations he stole millions of scientific journals from a computer archive at a Massachusetts university.
Swartz pleaded not guilty to the charges in early 2012.
He is believed to have hanged himself in his New York apartment.
In an email to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology paper, his lawyer Elliot Peters confirmed his client's death saying "the tragic and heartbreaking information you received is, regrettably true".
