Injured motorcyclist rescued after crash

A MAN was taken to hospital by helicopter after crashing his motorbike on the Wivenhoe-Somerset Rd yesterday morning.

The crash was the first of two motorbike accidents on the road near Crossdale within an hour of each other.

A 40-year-old man was rescued from the scene after his bike went down a more than 20 metre embankment at 10.15am.

Police said his injuries were non-life threatening and he was conscious and breathing at the scene.

A second crash at 10.50am saw a 30-year-old man suffer a dislocated shoulder when he crashed his motorbike.

As of Sunday morning the number of crashes statewide were down on the Christmas period last year.

Three people have died from traffic accidents in comparison to six at this stage of the 2011-12 season and 130 people had suffered injuries from crashes, down from 238.
