Hunt on for fan who made racist comments at Paul Ifill

ADELAIDE United was yesterday helping FFA officials track down a fan who allegedly made racist comments to Wellington star Paul Ifill during Sunday's A-League home match at Hindmarsh Stadium.

The former Millwall, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace midfielder said the comments made when he was substituted in the 61st minute were "blatantly racist".

"Thanks for all your support as I said it was a small minority no problem with a bit of banter but a line was crossed today," Ifill wrote on Twitter.

That claim was backed up by teammates Alex Smith and Griffin McMaster

"Unbelievable the things I heard from the bench ... it's 2012 people," Smith wrote on Twitter.

"I'll leave it for now but I will say it was very racist and disgraceful ..."

Adelaide officials said they took the allegations seriously and would support any sanction imposed on the guilty party.

Wellington said it had approached the FFA yesterday to ask for assistance in ensuring the incident was fully investigated.

Officials also said they had spoken to their Adelaide counterparts and had accepted the club's unequivocal apology.
