A WOMAN was taken Ipswich Hospital on Saturday afternoon suffering from smoke inhalation after her home was severely damaged by a fire.

Queensland Fire and Rescue Service were called to Carr St at 1.30pm to find the timber home well alight.

The fire was later extinguished but significant damage had already been caused.

Police were investigating the cause of the fire yesterday.

It is believed the occupants were working on a car underneath the home at the time of the fire.

Ipswich firefighter Jed Crosby said it was a great effort by fire crews to bring the blaze under control in the windy conditions.

"The timber aided the fire to burn quite fiercely and made the crews work quite hard," he said.
