Handyman makes it his business
HIS years of experience as a handyman and a growing demand for the trade have enticed North Ipswich resident Cameron Saywell into a new business.
Minor maintenance and small repairs are his speciality as he embarks on a fresh career with Hire A Hubby.
Mr Saywell moved from Brisbane a year ago after he'd repaired flood damage to his Rocklea home.
"I renovated properties with my parents from the age of 15 and I've been renovating with my wife for the past 10 years, which included completely redoing our house after it was ruined by the floods last year," he said.
"I love renovating. I love taking something that is broken, worn out or not working and fixing it, and I want to help others out with their property maintenance and renovation needs.
"I do residential, commercial and real estate work.
"I'm not licensed to do any structural work."
With a father who's a builder and a mother who has owned two caravan parks, Mr Saywell has never been far from a fix-it environment.
"I'm a qualified mechanic with 10 years' experience. I spent three years landscaping and I've worked the last six years in the transport industry but I decided it was time to do what I'm passionate about," he said.
"I didn't need to go back to do an apprenticeship because I already had the experience and I've done all the training through Hire A Hubby. It's a recognised name with integrity, and that's why I chose it.
"There are a lot of medium to high-set Queenslanders in the area and I'm looking forward to a wide scope of work like landscaping, fencing, deck repairs, bathroom repairs and alterations."
His territory as Hire A Hubby takes in Brassall, Coalfalls, West Ipswich, Leichhardt and Wulkuraka.
