Bushfire brought under control
UPDATE 9.30PM: POLICE have revoked the emergency declaration which was made at Minden this afternoon after the bushfire was brought under control.
The declaration, made under the Public Safety Preservation Act, was revoked at 8.50pm. It had encompassed the following roads:
- Hermann Road and Waldon Road (western boundary)
- Tallegalla Road(eastern boundary)
- Warrego Highway(northern boundary) and
- Woolshed Creek Road(southern boundary)
No one was injured and no properties were damaged as a result of the blaze.
The Warrego Highway, east and westbound, has re-opened to traffic.
UPDATE 4.30PM: POLICE are evacuating homes along Mountview Dve on the Minden range, west of Ipswich.
A bushfire has burned through about 100 hectares of hilly terrain and there are concerns for at least four homes in the area. Fire fighters are working to defend three of the homes on the road. The Warrego Highway has been closed due to poor visibility.
UPDATE: THE Warrego Highway has been closed at Minden as a result of smoke hazard.
Firefighters are battling several blazes along the highway west of Ipswich, particularly near the Minden range. Traffic is at a standstill and it is not certain when the highway will reopen.
EARLIER: Several bushfires have broken out in the Lockyer Valley and other areas west of Ipswich, causing visibility problems for Warrego Highway motorists.
Police said the area between Hatton Vale and Plainland was the worst affected, however there is also a fire at Minden which is threatening homes.
Commuters have been urged to slow down in smoke affected areas.
