TO better help disadvantaged young people gain access to the latest technology, a new internet cafe will be introduced at the Tudor Park Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) after they received a donation of $10,000 from Telstra.

Expected to open at the end of January 2013, the cafe will offer computers to help young people complete assignments or search for jobs.

Tudor Park PCYC branch manager Rachel Whitford said she was grateful to Telstra for the grant.

"We are all so excited about this opportunity to be able to offer internet access to the local community and encourage more people into the Tudor Park PCYC," Ms Whitford said.

"We hope to have this up and running at the end of January, beginning of February next year.

"We would really like to thank Telstra for this fantastic opportunity."

The centre received the grant by applying to Telstra's Everyone Connected program, where 100 successful recipients were awarded grants to update their current technology facilities.

Telstra general manager for Brisbane South Andrew Kelly said he was overwhelmed with the response from local not-for-profit organisations.

"More than 1200 organisations applied for a $10,000 grant which was well above our expectations," Mr Kelly said.

"As people increasingly go online for both business and social purposes, the consequences of not being connected become much more profound.

"Telstra's view is that access is fundamental and as an organisation we are determined to help people develop the skills and capability to go online and stay safe and protected while doing so.

"That's what these grants are all about."
