SEVEN police crews and four ambulances were on site at Goodna this afternoon after a man threatened to harm himself with a knife.

The man barricaded himself in a low set weatherboard home next to the Early Start Learning Centre shortly after noon after police wanted to talk to him about allegedly damaging cars.

He made threats to harm himself with the knife while police negotiators were called in.

He eventually surrendered at 1.32pm and was briefly treated by paramedics on the scene.

He was then arrested and taken into custody.

About 10 police officers and six paramedics remained on site until the man surrendered.

There was no immediate threat to neighbours or other civilians.

Police are yet to charge the man and investigations are continuing.
