Gold Coast fatality state's fifth for holiday period

FIVE people have died on Queensland roads over the Christmas holidays.

A 23-year-old man was the latest to be added to the holiday toll after a car struck him on the Gold Coast on Sunday night.

Police said the man was on Central St, Labrador, at 10.30pm when struck. He died at the scene.

On Sunday police caught 70 drink-drivers on Queensland roads and 14 people were injured in car crashes.

More than 50 people were nabbed for seat belt offences and 43 motorists caught for using their mobile phones while driving.
