Step-grandfather gets five years for abusing grandchild
A MAN who molested his girlfriend's granddaughter has been sentenced to five years jail without parole.
Ipswich District Court heard the 63-year-old man used the girl "to satisfy his own sexual gratification" at his Minden property when she went to visit him and her grandmother.
The girl was aged between six and 11 when her step-grandad assaulted her at the farmhouse in which her grandmother lived.
He was adored by the grandchildren, but he was convicting of abusing their trust by molesting the girl over a number of years in a storage room and the laundry, the court heard.
The girl referred to him as "Mr X" and he was originally charged with nine counts of indecent treatment, but convicted of five.
The court heard his abuse of the girl subsided when the girl approached her teenage years.
She told her parents her step-grandad tried to "sex her", and in an interview with police said there was times in the "downstairs room" where he indecently dealt with her.
