A LARGE bushfire is currently burning in the vicinity of Halliford Road and Lake Broadwater Road south-west of Dalby.

The fire, located in the Kumbarilla State Forest and the Wilkie Creek area, is currently contained and there is no immediate threat to property.

Fire crews and water bombers continue to fight the blaze, which is expected to burn for a number of days and has burnt almost 30,000 hectares.

The fire is causing a large volume of smoke and residents are advised to close their windows and doors.

If they suffer from respiratory illness, they should keep their medication close by.

Motorists are urged to be aware of firefighters working in the area and drive with caution and to the conditions.
