Mayor launches a week to celebrate families
IT WAS not Paul Antonio the Mayor who addressed the crowd at City Hall today. It was Paul Antonio the family man.
Launching Family Week 2012, Cr Antonio spoke of how his wife, three children and nine grandchildren were all constant reminders to him of how every family member had a part to play in people's lives.
Cr Antonio reinforced the role families played in the community, heralding them as the "cornerstone to our community."
Joining Cr Antonio at the microphone was Family Week chairman Isaac Moody and Environment and Community portfolio chair Cr Geoff McDonald.
Mr Moody said it was everyday people who did everyday things who made the biggest difference to community life.
"The real heroes of Family Week are the people who get out and organise their own events like barbecues in their backyards or parks with their family, friends or neighbours," he said.
Running from October 20-28, the week is a celebration of the fact that families come in all shapes and sizes and is centred around activities and events planned all around Toowoomba.
To mark the occasion, school kids in grades 4-7 were asked to design a brochure highlighting Toowoomba as a family orientated city.
The winner of the brochure competition was Connor Henderson from Toowoomba Christian College.
