Family to retrace fatal walk home

IT'S been a week since Vicki Blackburn's daughter was stolen from her, and tonight she will courageously retrace her fatal walk home from work.

Ms Blackburn bravely faced another media conference yesterday and said she hoped the 7pm walk would prompt somebody to remember something about that fateful night and call Crime Stoppers.

"We are going to walk for Shandee," she said.

"We are going to do this to give people the opportunity to show their support for Shandee. We've been touched and overwhelmed by the public support we've received and we want the community to know that - they're a part of this as well."

Ms Blackburn said she hoped the walk would also trigger someone's memory and make them come forward.

"They may not have seen anything or seen Shandee but they may have seen someone in the area who did or notices something," she said.

"It's really important that we get that information to the police."

The Blackburn family will be leading the walk and invites the community to join them as they retrace their "beautiful girl's" last steps.

Shandee's older sister, Shannah, encouraged people to wear fluoro colours.

"She loved fluoro, so if you want to wear anything fluoro or bring some fluoro bands or anything like that we'd really appreciate it," she said.

"I'd like to thank everyone who has reached out. We have had some amazingly beautiful words."

This week an autopsy revealed Shandee was stabbed multiple times in the upper body with an unknown object.

Regional crime co-ordinator Detective Acting Inspector Paul Elliot said police would be re-enacting Shandee's final movements from 11pm tonight with the hope it would jog someone's memory.

"The re-enactment will go for two hours around the time Shandee was last seen. It's around the time we know she met her fate," he said.

"We're hoping someone will be in a position to come forward." SES volunteers searched through rubbish at Paget Waste Centre yesterday in the hope of finding the murder weapon.

 

WALK FOR SHANDEE

FAMILY and friends of Shandee Blackburn will be joined by the community to retrace the 23-year-old's final steps, from 7pm tonight. They begin their march at Harrup Park along the 1.5km to Boddington St, to where Shandee was murdered.

The community is being encouraged to wear fluoro colours and show their support for her family and police, who are working tirelessly to bring her murderer to justice.
