SINCE July there have been 12 pure breed animals posted as missing on the Lost Pets Coordinator South Burnett Facebook page.

Melissa Saly's two rottweilers, Cleo and Cujo, went missing from her Booie property several months ago.

She said Cleo was four weeks pregnant when they disappeared.

"Rotweillers throw a large litter so whoever has them would profit greatly from them, with each puppy worth $1000," Ms Saly said.

She said her family was devastated by the loss.

"There are so many words under the sun I could use to describe how we're feeling right now," Ms Saly said.

"But it's like losing two of our children."

Lost Pet Coordinator South Burnett's Denise Bettany said the number of missing pure breeds in the area was concerning.

"What's strange is a lot of pure breeds are missing and they're not desexed," she said.

"So this means they can be used for breeding."

RSPCA Kingaroy shelter manager Sally Charles urged people to secure their pets properly.

"Now that we're coming into the storm season, people should secure their pets as they can take off during a storm because they're frightened," she said.

"We would like to reiterate that people need to microchip their pets because it helps us relocate their pet."
