Emergency call helps save child
A TWO-year-old boy has been revived by family and friends taking instructions over the phone after being pulled unconscious from a back yard pool.
The incident happened at a low-set weatherboard house in Thompson St Silkstone about 8.15am yesterday.
Police said first aid instructions were relayed over the phone by the Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) before paramedics arrived.
A police spokesman said the toddler had been going in and out of consciousness after he was pulled from the pool.
After treating the boy at the house, QAS paramedics left about 9.30am to take him to Mater Children's Hospital in Brisbane.
The police Child Protection and Investigation Unit (CPIU) arrived at the house soon after to start its investigation into the case.
As he left, a CPIU detective said the boy's condition had improved once he was treated by paramedics.
"We gave first aid instructions over the phone," a QAS spokesman said."He was conscious and breathing when QAS got there."
Investigations into the circumstances leading up to the incident are continuing.
Thompson St is a quiet suburban street and only one neighbour was on the street watching the incident unfold. She went to the house after the toddler had left for the hospital. Two crews of uniformed police joined the CPIU detective at the house. Uniformed police spoke to a woman at the rear of the house.
