AN elderly man died after his car crashed into a tree on a suburban Ipswich street on Saturday afternoon.

The 81-year-old Ipswich man was driving a ute when it veered off the road.

The ute hit the tree about 10metres along the driveway of a Keogh St home in West Ipswich.

Police arrived at the scene at 12.30pm, and the victim remained in the car for more than three hours.

The Queensland Fire and Rescue Service were called to help remove the man from the car shortly before 4pm.

The man was a resident of Keogh St.

A Queensland Police spokesman said investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit were in the preliminary stages and were continuing.
