INTERIM Parramatta coach Brad Arthur celebrated his first game in charge in style last night as the Eels upset the Broncos 42-22 at Suncorp Stadium.

New coach Ricky Stuart saw the best and worst of his new charges.

First they took a 30-6 half-time lead, but then they allowed the home team to score three second-half tries and at one stage an unlikely comeback looked possible.

The Eels, with Chris Sandow at his impish best, scored seven tries - five in a sparkling first half - to leave the Broncos shell-shocked.

Three of those first-half tries came in a devastating six-minute spell just before the break.

Veteran Luke Burt had a great night, scoring 18 points from a try and seven conversions.

Nathan Smith started the ball rolling when he charged down Peter Wallace's kick to score.
