Drunk cyclist cops $400 fine after random breath test

Hemera Technologies

"I WAS really drunk".

That was what Shaun Micheal Burgin told police when they stopped him for a random breath test at Mooloolaba on Thursday night.

Problem was his getaway car was not a car at all, but his bicycle.

The 20-year-old Bli Bli man appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court yesterday charged with putting a vehicle in motion other than a motor vehicle while under the influence.

It was alleged Mr Burgin produced a blood alcohol reading of .15.

"I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time," Mr Burgin said.

"I had no money left for a cab so I rode my bike."

Mr Burgin was fined $400 and a conviction was recorded.
