HAVE you over indulged with too many serves of Christmas pudding over the last month?

Well, you are probably not alone on that front, but do you have the ticker to do something about it.

Getting fit is a popular new year's resolution, usually made after over indulging during the Christmas period.

But Lifestyle Health Club personal trainer Paul Florence said there are some tips which can help the early exuberance become a permanent lifestyle change.

He said the new year period is synonymous with resolutions to get fit.

The first is to not exercise too vigorously too early.

Mr Florence said it is best to ease yourself back into exercise after a long break.

"Just get out and about in the park and become active again.

Do it early in the day and kick start your metabolism," he said.

Mr Florence has heard plenty of times before that doing too much too early can turn people off exercise.

"They will say I'll train for 30 minutes in the morning and do weights in the evening and they don't want to come back because they are too sore.

"Get in and see a trainer early and get some professional advice."

He said the benefits of the smallest amounts of exercise are instantaneous.

"When you get home and have a shower you'll feel refreshed.

"Start pushing your walk to something that's a little bit more like exercise."

One of his newest clients is Emma Lennon.

She began sessions with Mr Florence this month, and believes it will give her the motivation she needs to stay in shape.
