Dog to be put down after mauling child

IPSWICH City Council has confirmed that the dog involved in an attack on a three-year-old boy will be put down.

The family pet was surrendered to council officers this week after mauling the child at a Redbank Plains home on Sunday afternoon.

The dog, a bull mastiff, was part of the family for eight years.

The victim has undergone surgery at the Mater Children's Hospital for serious facial injuries.
