HOW many times have you yo-yoed your diet and struggled to keep those kilograms off, pushed yourself at the gym and starved your body of its necessary nutrients all in the fight to be thin?
Well, you're not alone.
I have struggled with my weight since leaving high school and the security of my mother's house.
With those nutritional and scheduled meals now gone, I have to fend for myself out here in the real world.
So I decided to read up on all these "exciting" and "miracle" diets that I had heard everyone go on about.
I began my journey with The S Factor Diet. As a fellow journalist, I felt author Lowri Turner's advice could be for me.
The book started as most do, with the author telling of her struggle with weight and using enlightening words to help readers feel safe and inspired.
Then I got to something really interesting.
The S Factor Diet is a diet that identifies and utilises four hormones in the female body: serotonin, the "good mood" hormone; leptin, the "I'm not hungry" hormone; dopamine, the "high motivation" hormone; and adrenals, the "stress" hormones.
Divulging the science behind the effect these four hormones have on your body and the best way to balance them out with specific meals began to intrigue me.
I tried out some of the recipes for a few weeks and was surprised to find how happy I was and how much more energy I had.
With more than 50 recipes and a two-week food schedule, this was definitely an interesting start to the weight-loss journey.
Deciding to branch out, I glanced through Clean and Lean Warrior by James Duigan.
I normally wouldn't take a second look at a dieting book just for men but from what I have read, not many diet books designed for women focus on the toning and definition of muscle.
I was surprised to find a very well-structured, picturesque guide book on healthy eating and the best exercises when you don't have the money or time to go to the gym.
With plenty of routines and planned meals, I didn't hesitate in pushing this book in the direction of male friends determined to lose kilos and put on muscle themselves.
Through these two books, I think I've found a pretty balanced understanding and great set of recipes to get me through the next year but my curiosity hadn't quite been satisfied.
So I turned my attention to a book that in my opinion is a bit … out there.
Hypnotic Gastric Band by Paul McKenna - now the title alone brings forth strong feelings of doubt and speculation.
The idea behind the book, from the world- recognised and instant best-selling author and hypnotist, is to place the reader into a trance to trick their bodies into believing that they have a gastric band.
It turns out this neat little book is packed full of surprises.
I read on with interest as this hypnotist took me on a journey to learn more about how I can make myself still eat the things I love, just at a smaller portion size.
I learnt that it's best to make sure you chew your food at least 20 times before swallowing.
As I kept trying to chew my food "properly", I noticed how much more I enjoyed my food.
I could taste the spices and flavours.
And that's not to mention I just couldn't finish what was on my plate… which has never happened before.
Once you have read the book there is a CD and DVD to help put you into a trance and let the Hypnotic Gastric Band "surgery" begin.
I am still a bit sceptical that this procedure would work on me,but why not give it a shot?
It couldn't do any more harm.
