TWO would-be whitewater thrill seekers had their Australia Day paddle cut short by police after launching their kayak into the churning waters of West Creek on Saturday.

Police were called to the fast-flowing watercourse behind the Toowoomba City Library at 4pm after concerned onlookers called 000.

One of the boardshort-clad revellers was already paddling upon the arrival of two plain-clothes detectives.

The duo was given a stern warning and told about the dangers of entering rising waters.
