BY demolishing the Warriors 52-12 in Townsville on Saturday night, the Cowboys became the first team this season to pass the 50-point mark twice.

But it wasn't the nine tries that impressed Johnathon Thurston.

Rather it was his side's ability to keep the team that came into the match having scored the fourth most tries in the competition, to just two, that impressed the skipper.

"They're a very talented side the Warriors and they threw a lot at us with some second phase play with Feleti (Mateo) and the boys," Thurston said. "We handled that well."

The Cowboys need only one win from their last three games - Dragons (a), Knights (h), Sharks (a) - to cement a place in the finals
