Country music gets fair dinkum
ALL roads will lead to Grafton next month for lovers of traditional Australian country music.
From November 5-11 Grafton Showground will host the Fair Dinkum Country Music Roundup, featuring around 30 of the top country music artists.
Event co-ordinator Bob Vickers said the 'fair dinkum' part of the title was a reaction to modern country music which he said was "too rock and roll".
"Basically it has to be country music, with the music played live on stage," he said.
"We promote traditional Australian country music, we also like some American country but there's no country rock."
Mr Vickers said the muster caters for a particular type of country music fan who travels from festival to festival, the grey nomad.
"I've just come back from travelling 10,000km to country music festival," he said.
"The smallest attracted 75 vans and the largest, at Nanango in Queensland, had 803."
He hoped between 100 and 200 vans would come to Grafton.
"We're in a good spot here because we artists from both North and South," he said.
"People I met up North said they would come because they'd be seeing news acts."
Mr Vickers said the muster would piggy back off the Jacaranda Festival.
