Construction to start on new NBN connections

CONSTRUCTION will start on National Broadband Network connections for more than 75,000 homes around Queensland and New South Wales, Communication Minister Stephen Conroy said on Monday.

Mr Conroy released maps detailing more than 44,000 connections in Queensland and 31,000 connections in New South Wales.

In the regions, Toowoomba and Mackay in Queensland and Coffs Harbour regions in NSW were among those listed for new connections.

But the release of the maps did not update the latest from the NBN Co, which showed construction of the fibre optic network, had not begun in many regions.

Mr Conroy said people living and working in those areas could, however, be able to connect to the network in "around 12 months".

New South Wales:

  • Coffs Harbour: (Sapphire Beach, Korora)

Queensland:

  • Brisbane (Hamilton, Hendra, Ascot, Eagle Farm, Pinkenba)
  • Mackay (South Mackay, East Mackay)
  • Toowoomba (Redwood, Withcott, East Toowoomba, Rangeville)
